Business Analyst

Location: New York

The Business Analyst (BA) is a line-of-business departmental expert who bridges the gap between the technical and business teams throughout a project lifecycle from inception to solution implementation and evaluation.

The BA will work in our Data Group, focusing on data onboarding and analysis initiatives. They will work closely with business experts, data leads, software engineers as well as senior stakeholders to evaluate existing problems and work on providing solutions and recommendations. BAs will use data to drive their recommendations and look for ways to expand our data collection efforts and further develop our data-driven decisions making capabilities. BAs will work closely with others on the team to analyze and design various decision management solutions, author and test business rules, and implement decision governance processes. An understanding of the domestic and international commercial real estate market will be helpful in this position, but not necessarily a prerequisite.


  • Comprehend a characteristic or legal/financial mechanism of the commercial real estate market to translate into a user story and set of requirements for development
  • Develop, implement, and test business logic’s impact on data input and output
  • Based on analysis, develop project proposals or implementation strategies as necessary and present to management
  • Distill and present complex ideas into a clear and concise visual representation
  • Elicit stakeholder needs, investigate, and clarify desires to understand issues and causes
  • Audit deployment of rules on client-facing products for data quality
  • Communicate with peers and leadership as needed
  • Adapt to changes and pivot quickly
  • Examine old problems in new ways

Position Requirements

A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Business, Finance, Computer Science, or Engineering. Advanced SQL and Python skills and experience using these languages to query and combine various large data sources. Experience using data lake engines to operationalize analytics. Proficiency in data visualization, dashboarding and analytical report building – e.g. Tableau, Power BI. The ideal candidate will have experience implementing complex business rules in a production process. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Familiarity working in the agile framework. Experience communicating with all levels of an organization. At least 3-5 years of experience in a Business Analyst role. IIBA CBAP certified preferred.

Personal Attributes

The Business Analyst must have proven critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate will understand fundamental concepts of good data modeling such as entities, relationships, normalization and unit testing.
